Mayor of London Sadiq Khan previously criticized President Donald Trump’s plan to restrict travel to the U.S. to prevent radical Islamic terrorism from targeting American citizens.
Khan, the city’s first Muslim mayor, declared early last year that Trump’s “ignorant view of Islam” could make the U.S., as well as Europe less safe, The Telegraph reported.
“Donald Trump’s ignorant view of Islam could make both of our countries less safe — it risks alienating mainstream Muslims around the world and plays into the hands of extremists,” he said last May, “Donald Trump and those around him think that Western liberal values are incompatible with mainstream Islam — London has proved him wrong.”
Khan once stated that terrorist attacks are “part and parcel” to life in a big city.
London police responded Saturday to terrorist attacks at London Bridge and Borough Market. Three men slammed a van into pedestrians on the bridge and then attacked civilians at bars in the market area, stabbing people indiscriminately. Seven people were killed, and 48 more were injured in the attack.
An eyewitness on the London Bridge told BBC that he saw three people stabbing people at random, shouting “this is for Allah.” The Amaq News Agency, an official Islamic State channel, claimed Sunday that a detachment of ISIS fighters were responsible for the attack.
As news of the latest terror attacks to hit the U.K. came in, Trump called for courts to uphold his proposed travel ban on countries that export violent extremism.
We need to be smart, vigilant and tough. We need the courts to give us back our rights. We need the Travel Ban as an extra level of safety!

We must stop being politically correct and get down to the business of security for our people. If we don’t get smart it will only get worse

In the wake of the terrorist attacks in London, Khan said that the attacks were “cowardly.” In response to Trump’s comments, Khan’s spokesman said, “He has more important things to do than respond to Trump’s ill-informed tweet.”
BREAKING: London Mayor Sadiq Khan describes bridge area incidents as ‘deliberate and cowardly attack on innocent Londoners’
— The Associated Press (@AP) June 4, 2017
The U.K. has been hit by three tragic terrorist attacks — the Westminster incident, the Manchester bombing, and Saturday’s attack — in recent months. Prime Minister Theresa May declared Sunday that “enough is enough,” condemning the “evil ideology of Islamist extremism” and noting that “there is, to be frank, far too much tolerance of extremism in our country.”
