Jason Aldean and his pregnant wife Brittany Aldean returned to Las Vegas Sunday to visit with the victims of the largest mass shooting in America’s history.

“Feels surreal being back in Vegas today. Visiting some of the strongest people we have ever met…fighting the toughest battle of them all … for their lives,” Aldean captioned a picture of her and the 40-year-old country singer standing together near the spot a week after the massacre. Aldean was performing on stage when a gunman opened fire on concert goers, leaving more than 50 people dead and hundreds injured. (RELATED: Jason Aldean Cancels Shows After Las Vegas Shooting)

“You have helped us try to begin the healing process by seeing the strength each one of you have,” she added. “Thank you for today. We will never forget. #vegasstrong”

The “Big Green Tractor” singer was criticized over the weekend by UFC’s Dana White for skipping out on performing for the first responders and shooting survivors Saturday night at the UFC 216 in Vegas. White said he had asked Aldean to sing the national anthem and claims that the singer’s team told him Aldean was still shaken up from the shooting and might not ever again perform live. Instead, he showed up on “Saturday Night Live” Saturday night at the same time as the event.

During his appearance, he talked about the victims, before performing “I Won’t Back Down” by the late Tom Petty who died last week.

“So many people are hurting … Children, brothers, sisters, parents — they’re all part of our family,” Aldean shared. “We’re gonna work through these tough times together, all the way.”
