Los Angeles city attorney Mike Feuer promised to go after Harvey Weinstein if alleged victims come forward.
“We take allegations like these very seriously, and where the facts support conviction, we will prosecute,” Feuer said in a statement Tuesday, according to Page Six. (RELATED: Ed Asner Asks Chris Jansing For Kiss During Weinstein Interview)
“Please come forward so that your cases–and justice–can be pursued,” he added.
The move comes a day after Los Angeles Police Department let it be known that they encouraged alleged victims of the film producer to also come forward, but admitted that they currently had no active investigations into Weinstein.
“We absolutely encourage anyone who may be a victim of sexual assault to come forward and report the crime,” said Josh Rubenstein, LAPD director of communications.
LA County Sheriff Jim McDonnell also said they “certainly will investigate any allegations that are brought to our attention, like we would do for anyone else.”
Last week, Lucia Evans filed a complaint with the New York Police Department against Weinstein after sharing with the New Yorker that Weinstein allegedly forced her to perform a sex act in 2004.
A spokesperson for the film producer has denied all accusations of non-consensual sexual encounters.
