The U.S. military has hit the Islamic State much harder with airstrikes in the past two days in retribution for a Tuesday ISIS attack, President Donald Trump revealed Friday.
U.S. Central Command figures for Nov. 2 show “13 strikes consisting of 15 engagements against ISIS terrorists in Syria and Iraq,” with Nov. 1 figures showing another 11. These figures bring the total number of strikes to 24.
Trump made the revelation after deriding NYC terrorist Sayfullo Saipov, an Uzbek national who permanently resides in the U.S. The group also officially mentioned Saipov in their propaganda Friday in an unusual move.
ISIS waited more than two days to claim or mention the attack in its official propaganda, likely because Saipov was taken alive by authorities. The FBI notes that Saipov is wholly unrepentant for his attack, wishing only he’d killed more than eight people and asked hospital authorities to put an ISIS flag up in his room.
