Prince Harry’s engagement to Meghan Markle was announced Monday, and it’s a struggle to find a reason why Americans should care.
The official Twitter account for the British Royal family fired off a string of tweets announcing the news.

First off, Prince Harry is actually a pretty interesting dude. He openly talks about how he’s killed terrorists in Afghanistan, and I think that’s something we can all get behind.
Having said that, Americans shouldn’t care at all about what the royal family of a foreign nation is up to. Prince Harry’s engagement quickly became the top trending topic on Twitter, and it’s mind-boggling. America stopped caring about the British the moment the first shot of the Revolutionary War was fired. I’m pretty sure we haven’t asked for their opinion on much ever since.
Does the marriage of any other royal family control the news cycle in America? Of course not and that’s the way it should be. I’m not sure why it’s different just because it’s the British. Again, we fought an entire war so that we’d never have to listen to them ever again.
Call me crazy, but I’m not going to get all worked up about who people in a foreign country are getting married to. I guess the red, white and blue just run way too deep in me.
