President Donald Trump got the entire room to stand for veterans and police officers during his State of the Union address Tuesday.
Trump cleverly lumped in veterans and police officers into the same sentence so that Democratic lawmakers had no choice but to stand and applaud — otherwise they risked appearing anti-military.
“And we celebrate our police, our military, and our amazing veterans as heroes who deserve our total and unwavering support,” Trump said.
The entire room exploded with raucous applause when Trump made the statement, including the Democratic side of the aisle.
Earlier in the speech, Trump thanked the Alexandria police officers who saved Rep. Steve Scalise’s life after a shooter opened fire on Republicans during a congressional baseball game practice.
“We are incredibly grateful for the heroic efforts of the Capitol Police Officers, the Alexandria Police, and the doctors, nurses, and paramedics who saved his life, and the lives of many others in this room,” Trump said.
