Former FBI Director James Comey blasted “weasels and liars” who are pushing for the release of the FISA memo in a tweet Thursday night.

Comey’s tweet comes as the memo, which alleges that top officials in the FBI and Department of Justice (DOJ) misled a federal surveillance court in order to obtain a spy warrant against a former President Donald Trump campaign adviser, is expected to be released to the public.

The former FBI director, who has continued to take shots at Trump on Twitter since being fired by the president in May, said everyone should appreciate the FBI for trying to block the release of the memo. (RELATED: FBI Makes Last-Ditch Effort To Block Release Of Secret Spy Memo)

“All should appreciate the FBI speaking up. I wish more of our leaders would,” Comey tweeted. “But take heart: American history shows that, in the long run, weasels and liars never hold the field, so long as good people stand up. Not a lot of schools or streets named for Joe McCarthy.”

Besides taking occasional shots at the president, the former FBI agent signed a multimillion dollar book deal with Flatiron Books in August. The book is reportedly about leadership.
