It’s Thursday, and it’s time for a great flashback to the greatest commercial ESPN has ever made.

John Clayton’s SportsCenter spot — where he starts rocking out and shouts “Mom! My segment’s done!” — is simply never going to get outdone, and you can quote me on that.

We were palling around in the office sucking down a few beers yesterday after work. We absolutely crushed it during the day and thought we should take the edge off after all our great work.

I brought this commercial up, and the whole room pretty much agreed immediately that it’s awesome. I feel bad that Clayton’s not with ESPN anymore. The guy was a rare talent, and actually seemed like a cool dude. The same can’t be said for a lot of people in media.

Clayton just gave off that vibe that you could grab a bunch of beers with him, and the stories would never end. That’s a guy I want in my crew any day of the week.

It almost feels fitting that the greatest spot ESPN ever did was done by somebody who doesn’t work there anymore. The end of an era.
