White House press secretary Sarah Sanders was asked about the government shutdown during the press briefing Wednesday, and her response was vicious.
“The only people that have shut the government down are the Democrats,” Sanders said. “We haven’t shut the government down. We’ve laid out exactly what we want to happen, and we’re working towards achieving those goals.”
A reporter shot back, “[Trump] was the one who said he wanted to shut the government down. I’m not understanding. He said ‘I want a government shutdown.'”
“The point he’s making when you put it in the context is that if we are going to of that fight, it’s a fight that the Democrats started last time and lost and we think we would win again. We want a two-year budget deal,” Sanders replied. “We want an immigration plan that fixes the problem and doesn’t further kick the can down the road. Those are the two focuses. We’re hopeful we’ll get those done.” (RELATED: Sarah Sanders: Do Democrats ‘Hate This President More Than They Love This Country?’)
