Republican Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise wouldn’t give a definitive answer on “Fox & Friends” Monday if Speaker of the House Paul Ryan should be replaced for presiding over the recent Congressional budget deal.

Host Steve Doocy played a clip of GOP Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan going after Ryan, and asked Scalise point-blank if his time as speaker of the house was over.

“This is a deal that Speaker Ryan has negotiated for years,” Scalise replied. “We’ve passed bills in the House. And I know Jim Jordan supported them in the past to increase defense spending, but not on the non-defense discretionary side. We were passing that in the House for years. The Senate never went along with it. We finally got an agreement with the Senate. But look, we have got to get control of mandatory spending. That is the driver of our debt. We need to focus on that and get control over mandatory spending quickly.”
