Sarah Sanders faced the press for the first time this week on Tuesday after a hectic weekend for President Trump.

Sanders was asked several questions about the Russia investigation and the administration stance on guns. One particular question had to do with the proposal by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich to arm teachers in the classroom.

Gingrich said:

“I think the only long-term solution, depending on the size of the school, is a minimum of six to eight teachers and administrators who are trained in the use of firearms and have conceal carry permits and are prepared to defend the kids,”

The reporter asked “Is that in the range of ideas that the president is open to?”

Sanders did not close the door on the issue, stating that she has not specifically spoken to the president about it but that they are open to all suggestions.

We’re going to take in a lot of information from individuals that have been affected, specifically by school shootings as well as those that hope they never have to be in that situation and talking to state and local law enforcement officials, state and local elected officials on what we’re legally allowed to do and what areas that we feel like we can help with that moving forward.

The practice of arming teachers in the classroom is rare in the United States, but does occur.
