Baseball announcer and noted personality Tim Kurkjian covered the Cubs vs. Marlins during the MLB’s opening day on Thursday.

During a lull in the game (there are many), Kurkjian opted to go into a brief monologue about his lack of musical knowledge.

“Weren’t you and that Pitbull guy tight last year?” one announcer brings up.

“Over came Pitbull, who gave me this complicated handshake which I couldn’t even figure out,” Kurkjian says. “And thank goodness he didn’t ask me what’s my favorite song of his because I didn’t even know who he was! I need to get out of the house a little bit more, I think that’s fairly obvious.”

“Just update the playlist a little bit too,” Karl Ravech chimes in. “You need some DJ Khaled on there.”

“I wasn’t sure who he was, I thought Lynyrd Skynyrd was a guy, I thought his name was Len I didn’t know it was a band,” Kurkjian continues. “I thought Jethro Tull was a guy, instead of a band. And — this is really bad — for a very short time in my life, a short time, I wasn’t sure if Kanye West was a man or a woman. That’s how bad I am at music.”

You’ve got to respect a guy who is so deeply entrenched in baseball that he never brings his head up for air. He’s just plugged into the baseball world, 24/7. Even during the relatively short offseason, he’s plugged in. Lynyrd Skynyrd? Never heard of them. Kanye West? If he can’t toss a ball he’s wasting Kurkjian’s time. Next.
