President Donald Trump lambasted the FBI raid on his personal lawyer’s office in New York City during a public appearance Monday evening.
“It’s a disgraceful situation,” Trump said of the reported raid. “I have this witch hunt constantly going on… It’s an attack on on our country…what we all stand for.”
The president then attacked special counsel Robert Mueller and his own Attorney General Jeff Sessions for recusing himself from the entire investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
“The most conflicted group of people I have ever seen,” Trump said of Mueller’s team. “That is a whole new level of unfairness.”
“They’re not looking at the other side,” Trump lamented, referencing his former opponent Hillary Clinton’s own legal troubles.
“The Attorney General made a terrible mistake when he recused himself,” Trump also declared.
The FBI raided Cohen’s office Monday morning and seized multiple records, including private communications between himself and Trump. Cohen’s lawyer said in a statement that the raid was authorized after Mueller referred the matter to the U.S. attorney of the southern district of New York.
