The Los Angeles Times published an op-ed Tuesday, asking if Democrats should be on the lookout for their own Donald Trump to help reclaim the White House.
“The Democrats’ effort to come up with a program, separate and apart from anti-Trumpism, suggests they’re in desperate need of some disruption,” author Jonah Goldberg writes.
But Goldberg didn’t offer up suggestions as to who the Democratic savior might be. Instead, he said Democrats were simply relying on FDR’s New Deal to save them, and they didn’t even bother to give it a different wrapper.
“Say what you will about Reagan nostalgia, it’s at least fresher than FDR nostalgia, which has largely defined the Democratic Party for the better part of a century.” Goldberg writes. “When Democrats look for a policy vision, their framework is the New Deal.”
Goldberg marveled at how Democrats can call Republicans archaic while they are using the same idea from the great depression, decade after decade.
Goldberg also cited House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley’s appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” where he failed to offer one fresh proposal the Democrats are offering. Instead, Crowley relied upon infrastructure and doubled down on his support for Nancy Pelosi.
“Crowley’s confident response: A new infrastructure plan! But one that, unlike Trump’s plan, the feds would pick up more of the tab for. Can’t you smell the freshness,” Goldberg writes.
