Democratic New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker recently blamed Americans who received a $1,000 worker bonus this year for “driving up our debt.”
In a video with fellow Democratic Senators Chris Van Hollen and Tammy Baldwin, Booker slammed the Republican-led tax reform effort that cut taxes for a vast majority of Americans and led many businesses to give their employees one-time bonuses.
Booker called it a “ruse” that tax reform would “benefit average Americans besides some of these one-time bonuses that have been advertised so much,” despite the fact that 80 percent of households will receive a tax cut in 2018. (RELATED: Media Bias Against GOP Tax Bill Misleads The Public)
Booker went on to shame people who received those one-time bonuses, insisting that it is not “free money” and that it came with the cost of “driving up our debt.”
“Again, compare those numbers,” he asserted. “Who’s getting the most? We’re getting crumbs and, by the way…those people who might have gotten $1,000 as a bonus, remember, it’s not free money. It’s coming with the cost of driving up our debt.”
