Austin Clay, the man who admitted that he took a pickax and smashed President Donald Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame has been charged with a felony and could spend several years behind bars for his confessed crime.
The Los Angeles District Attorney hit Clay with one count of felony vandalism for allegedly destroying Trump’s star last month, according to TMZ Monday. The whole incident was captured on video obtained by the outlet. (RELATED: Guy Who Smashed Trump’s Hollywood Star: I Did ‘A Real Good Act’ And Even Robert De Niro Has Praised Me)
Clay later explained in a video to TMZ, that he smashed the star over the president’s immigration stance.
“I just felt really passionate because of what happened with the immigrants and him [Trump] stripping children away from their parents,” Clay said after being released from jail. “And that just sort of set me off.”
“I think Donald Trump represents everything that everybody with half a brain and half a heart in this country resents,” he added.
Later, he explained that he didn’t “resent doing it” and has even got some backing from celebrities like Robert De Niro and Chelsea Handler who praised him.
“Robert De Niro left me a voice message,” Clay shared. “He wanted to say…he wanted to give me a high-five. Chelsea Handler (who wanted to know if he was single), Mark Hamill.”
“I think I did, like, a real good act,” he added. “Personally, I don’t feel resentful. I feel proud of myself.”
If found guilty, he could face a maximum of three years in jail for the crime.
