Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker confirmed that there is a shadow resistance within President Trump’s administration following an anonymous op-ed published in the New York Times that alleged its existence on Wednesday.

“This is what all of us have understood to be the situation from day one,” Coker said to Alan He of CBS. “I understand this is the case, and that’s why I think all of us encourage the good people around the president to stay.”

He went on to say that he thanks General Mattis whenever he sees him for staying in the administration.

It was unclear, however, who Corker was referring to when he said “all of us” twice in the statement.

The op-ed, titled, “I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration,” claimed that “many of the senior officials in his own administration are working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations.”

President Trump responded to the op-ed during a White House event with sheriffs and then on Twitter.

“So if the failing New York Times has an anonymous editorial, can you believe it? Anonymous, meaning gutless — a gutless editorial,” Trump stated at the event.

Corker’s office did not respond when reached out for comment.
