Internet guru Bryan Goldberg, known for co-founding Bleacher Report, acquired gossip site Gawker and plans to relaunch it in early 2019 under the leadership of a publisher who recently left declining tech site The Outline.

“We won’t recreate Gawker exactly as it was, but we will build upon Gawker’s legacy and triumphs — and learn from its missteps,” Goldberg said in a Tuesday memo given to CNN.

Gawker’s new vice president and publisher will be Amanda Hale. She left an executive position at The Outline, which came under fire recently for a number of editorial staff layoffs that angered even freelance writers who felt they were being taken advantage of.

Gawker shut down in August 2016 after a lawsuit from Terry Bollea, also known as Hulk Hogan, made Gawker pay Bollea $140 million in damages for posting a sex tape of Bollea without his permission.

Gawker Media was acquired by Spanish-language media company Univision in 2016. Univision maintained other sites like Gizmodo and Jezebel that are under the Gawker Media umbrella but decided against reviving Gawker.

Goldberg bought Gawker at auction for $1.35 million “this summer,” reported CNN. That compares to the $135 million that Univision paid for Gawker Media in 2016, reported The Washington Free Beacon(RELATED: Democratic Florida Gubernatorial Nominee Sends Voters Mixed Messages About His Israel Stance)

Goldberg has been covered by Gawker in the past and is also known for being the founder and CEO of Bustle Digital Group.
