Democratic Hawaii Sen. Mazie Hirono is already fundraising on Thursday’s hearing about sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

“I am about to ask you to make a donation to support my re-election campaign before the [Federal Election Commission] fundraising deadline on Sunday,” read a fundraising email for Hirono, according to a screenshot posted on Twitter Thursday morning. “Here’s the main reason: I am spending every minute of my day fighting the Republicans who are desperate to rush Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination and deny a fair investigation into the credible sexual misconduct allegations against him.”

Hirono is “particularly vulnerable to right-wing attacks” because of her focus on the Kavanaugh allegations, the email said.

Hirono told men to “just shut up and step up” on Sept. 18 in light of accusations against Kavanaugh from Christine Blasey Ford. A reporter asked Hirono about the effect of having women on the Senate Judiciary Committee that is holding Thursday’s hearing.

“Of course it helps that there are women on that committee, but you know what? I expect the men in this country and the men in this committee … to demand an FBI investigation,” Hirono, a member of the committee, said. “But really, guess who’s perpetuating all of these kinds of actions? It’s the men in this country! And I just want to say to the men in this country — just shut up and step up! Do the right thing for a change.” (RELATED: Mazie Hirono Tells Men To ‘Shut Up And Step Up’)

Kavanaugh will testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee after testimony from Ford on Thursday.
