MSNBC anchor Lawrence O’Donnell racked up thousands of retweets and likes on a false tweet about Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham on Friday.

“Lindsay [sic] Graham just called Dr Ford’s story ‘garbage,'” O’Donnell tweeted.

Dr. Christine Blasey Ford testified in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh groped her at a high school party in the summer of 1982. Kavanaugh denies the allegation.

During a Senate Judiciary meeting on Friday, Sen. Graham addressed the various allegations of sexual assault against Kavanaugh, but did not call Dr. Ford’s allegation garbage. The South Carolina senator was referring specifically to allegations made by Julie Swetnick, who claimed that Kavanaugh was involved in gang rapes throughout the 1980s in the Washington, D.C., area. “If you’re a gang rapist when you’re in high school, you don’t just let it go,” Graham said. “[Kavanaugh’s] been at the highest level of public service, under tremendous scrutiny, 6 FBI investigations, and we missed the sophomore and junior gang rapist.”

“We didn’t miss it. It’s a bunch of garbage,” Graham asserted.

Graham went on to say that he believes something happened to Dr. Ford but that Kavanaugh wasn’t involved.

“All I can say about Ms. Ford — I feel sorry for her,” he said. “And I do believe something happened to her … but I don’t believe it was Brett Kavanaugh.”
