Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell attacked Senate Democrats while speaking on the Senate floor Friday morning for calling for the FBI investigation into Judge Brett Kavanaugh and then not being satisfied with the result.
WATCH:
“When the very FBI investigation for which they had been clamoring turned up no new evidence, the Democrats moved the goalpost yet again. I believe the latest story is that the whole investigation is invalid. Now listen to this, because individuals who had only recently been told secondhand or thirdhand about nearly 40-year-old allegations weren’t treated as essential witnesses,” McConnell began.
“Let me say that again. The latest story is that the whole investigation is invalid because individuals who had only recently been told secondhand or thirdhand about nearly 40-year-old allegations weren’t treated as essential witnesses. Never mind that they didn’t actually witness anything,” he continued. “They didn’t witness anything. So let’s be clear, madam president, these are not witnesses. These are people supposedly in possession of heresy that they first heard 35 years after the supposed fact.”
“The people whom Dr. Ford claimed were witnesses, they have spoken with the FBI,” McConnell said. “There is absolutely no corroborating evidence for these allegations.” (RELATED: Senate Tees Up Kavanaugh Confirmation On Close Vote)
McConnell’s speech took place about an hour before the Senate held their cloture vote on Kavanaugh’s nomination. The Senate procedural vote passed and the Senate will vote to confirm Kavanaugh in the coming days.
