In the days since, America has watched, horrified, as rioting mobs in major cities nationwide have parlayed the death of George Floyd into an excuse to loot and burn down businesses. And even as those businesses burn — some owned by immigrant and minority families who have poured their lives into their shops — some have been quick to dismiss their losses as “just property.”
