A Facebook group called the Freedom to Breathe Agency has created fake exemption cards for those who refuse to wear a mask.
“FTBA is an agency designed to stop face mask orders from spreading nationwide and globally,” states the group’s description on Facebook. The cards are intended to prevent business owners from denying people from entering stores because they are not wearing a mask, per Newsweek. “I am exempt from any ordinance requiring face mask usage in public,” states the exemption card, shown by Lance Bass on Twitter, “Wearing a face mask poses a mental and/or physical risk to me. Under the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), I am not required to disclose my condition to you.” The card also says that the business could be fined up to $150,000 for violating the order.
The group, formed on June 1, was originally called the Anti-Mask Task Force and has almost 6,000 members, per the Facebook page. The card reportedly also contains the seal of the United States Department of Justice and the DOJ ADA Violation reporting number, according to Newsweek.
The Department of Justice has since released a statement about the cards, stating they do not endorse them. “These postings were not issued by the Department and are not endorsed by the Department,” read the statement, “The Department urges the public not to rely on the information contained in these postings and to visit ADA.gov for ADA information issued by the Department.”
The Department of Justice did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller’s request for comment.
