The U.S., along with the rest of the world, has experienced a surge in coronavirus cases over the fall of 2020. In some areas, the number of cases reported in the “second wave” have surpassed the numbers from the initial outbreak earlier this year.

Though cases have been rising steadily, one key factor has often been overlooked when considering the “second wave”: The fatality rate has been consistently dropping.
