Fox News meteorologist Janice Dean said she wondered whether an Emmy awarded to Democratic New York Governor Andrew Cuomo would include a memorial for the seniors who died in his state’s nursing homes.

The International Emmy Awards announced Friday that Cuomo would receive the “International Emmy Founders Award in recognition of his leadership during the Covid19 pandemic & his masterful use of TV to inform & calm people around the world.”

Dean, who lost both her mother-in-law and father-in-law to the coronavirus in New York nursing homes responded quickly, writing, “I wonder if the @TheEmmys will add an extra in memoriam section after they give @NYGovCuomo his award remembering all the seniors who died thanks to his amazing leadership skills,” she said. Dean was not the only one to criticize the decision to award Cuomo for his pandemic coverage. Meghan McCain, regular host of ABC’s “The View,” called it “shameful.”

The Federalist’s Ben Domenech said that Cuomo should be on trial over the nursing home order that resulted in many positive cases among a vulnerable population.

Breitbart’s Joel Pollak summed it up differently, saying, “If you’re a Democrat, you can win: A Nobel Peace Price for nothing (Obama), A Pulitzer for fraud (1619 Project, Russia collusion), An Emmy for incompetence (COVID, nursing homes) An election from your basement.”

Cuomo is set to receive the award on November 23.
