McRib Sandwich Returns After 8 Years

The McRib sandwich from McDonalds will be available through carry out, Drive-Thru and the McDonalds app at participating restaurants nationwide starting Dec. 2.

The McRib, which consists of seasoned boneless pork bites mixed in a zesty barbecue sauce layered with onions and pickles, originally premiered in 1982. The last time the McRib sandwich was featured at McDonalds was in 2012, Newsweek reported.

“The McRib has been a beloved menu item at McDonald’s since its inception nearly 40 years ago,” Linda Van Gosen, the vice president of Menu Innovation, said. (RELATED: McDonald’s Hopes To Boost Sales With New Chicken McNuggets, Celebrity Partnerships)

“There’s nothing quite like the taste of the McRib. To our customers, it’s become more than a delicious, saucy moment…it’s a season, and it’s taking the internet by storm. That’s why this year, we’re proud to serve the McRib nationwide for everyone to enjoy,” she continued.

In an effort to attract attention for the upcoming release of the sandwich, McDonalds gave away 10,000 free McRibs in support of No-Shave November, as well as to support cancer research on Nov. 30. In order for participants to have won a McRib sandwich, they had to post a photo of their shaved faces to to either their Twitter or Instagram profiles, used the #Shave4McRibSweepstakes, as well as tagging @mcdonalds into their post.
