Police and military officials confirmed at a 2:30 pm press conference that the shooter, Fantahun Girma Woldesenbet, was a Navy medic and petty officer third class. Brigadier General Michael Talley, the commanding general at Fort Detrick, told reporters that he would not comment on the shooter’s motives.
The two victims, both Navy sailors, were shot inside a Navy-related business at the Riverside Tech Park, police officials said at the 2:30 press conference, according to The Associated Press. Woldesenbet then drove to Fort Detrick, where he refused to stop for base security. When he brandished his weapon at base police officers, they shot him.
