An off-duty NYPD officer was charged with murder after allegedly shooting her ex-girlfriend and fatally wounding her ex’s new lover Wednesday, CBS New York reported.

Yvonne Wu, 31, allegedly waited at her ex-girlfriend’s house in Brooklyn where she shot her ex and her ex’s new partner, according to CBS New York.

Wu was charged with murder and attempted murder Thursday. The New York state attorney general’s office is leading the investigation, Fox 5 reported. (RELATED: Two Off-Duty Cops Charged In Capitol Riots; One Allegedly Bragged He ‘Attacked The Government’)

Jamie Liang, 24, was shot in the chest and taken to Maimonides Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, CBS New York reported.

Wu’s ex-girlfriend was shot in the torso and is expected to survive, ABC News reported.

“It’s a very good chance it is her service weapon,” said NYPD Assistant Chief Michael Kemper, according to CBS New York.

Wu reportedly confessed to police that she had shot the women, CBS News New York reported.

She had worked as an NYPD officer for over five years, ABC reported.

“The whole incident is horrible, but these cops performed great, just heroically, and this is what NYPD cops come upon every single day,” Kemper said, according to ABC. “Is this an incident they would want to come upon? No. But unfortunately throughout their careers they come upon this.”
The murder rate in New York City in 2020 saw a 40% increase compared to 2019. It marked the third consecutive year of rising murder rates.
