Man Shoots Pizza Shop Manager After Asking For Job Application, Police Say

A man allegedly shot a pizza shop manager after asking for a job application Monday, police said.

The man, whose name has not been shared, entered a Papa John’s store in eastern Columbus, Ohio, around 10:15 p.m. Monday, police said, according to 10 WBNS. After the man entered the Papa John’s, he reportedly walked behind the counter, prompting the manager to grab him. The manager and suspect then began to fight over the gun before the manager was shot twice in the shoulder, police said, according to the outlet.

The suspect allegedly had been attempting to rob the store but fled the scene without taking anything, ABC 6 reported.

A witness to the shooting told police the suspect had asked the manager for a job application moments prior to the incident, 10 WBNS reported. Following the shooting, the manager was transported to Grant Medical Center, where he was reported to be in stable condition, according to the outlet.

Police described the suspect as between 20 and 30 years old, about 5’4″ or 5’5″ tall, and wearing all black clothing, according to 10 WBNS.

Authorities also reportedly recovered two shell casings from the scene, processed items for fingerprints and reviewed video of the incident, ABC 6 said.

The incident is the latest act of violence to impact Columbus. 30-year-old Tolen Flowers was found dead by first responders April 16 after an apparent shooting near Columbus State Community College, 10 WBNS reported.

A 49-year-old man was also shot in the hand while walking his dog early Monday morning in Columbus, according to NBC 4 I. The alleged suspects attempted to rob the victim, which prompted a fight over the gun, the outlet reported.
