American video game publisher Rockstar Games released a statement to Twitter at 9:10 a.m. Monday revealing they were hacked and informing fans that details about their new Grand Theft Auto game had been leaked.

Rockstar Games took to Twitter to explain the situation to their players, but did not reveal the extent of the damage or breached data allegedly caused by the hackers. “We recently suffered a network intrusion in which an unauthorized third part illegally accessed and downloaded confidential information from our systems,” Rockstar Games wrote in the statement.

The video game company said the information accessed included “early development footage for the next Grand Theft Auto,” but stopped short of giving more details about the nature of the information accessed.

“At this time, we do not anticipate any disruption to our live game services nor any long-term effect on the development of our ongoing projects,” Rockstar Games continued in the statement.

The company told fans they would continue to release the game as planned and would overcome the apparently unforeseen situation by doing their own grand reveal when the time was right, they noted in the statement. (RELATED:  IRS Leaks 120,000 Taxpayers’ Info, Blames ‘Human Coding Error’)

“We are extremely disappointed to have any details of our next game shared with you all in this way,” Rockstar Games stated.

“Our work on the next Grand Theft Auto game will continue as planned and we remain as committed as ever to delivering an experience to you, our players, that truly exceeds your expectations,” the company wrote to social media.

“We will update everyone again soon and, of course, will properly introduce you to this next game when it is ready,” Rockstar Games concluded, before signing off with gratitude and thanks to their players for supporting them through the situation.
