Carly Simon mourned the deaths of her sisters Joanna and Lucy, who both passed away from cancer within one day of each other in October, according to reports.

Simon described the loss of her sisters in a statement to People, sharing her love for them and speaking about the pain of these two fresh losses in her life.

Simon’s eldest sister, Joanna, passed Oct. 19, one day before her second sister, Lucy, passed Oct. 20, both of cancer, according to CBS News. (RELATED: REPORT: Keyboard Musician From Famous Band Dead At Age 70)

In her heartfelt statement to the outlet, Carly Simon held onto the memory of her sisters and shared how they each touched one another’s lives as trailblazers in the industry and in their personal lives.

“We were three sisters who not only took turns blazing trails and marking courses for one another, we were each others’ secret shares … The co-keepers of each other’s memories. I have no words to explain the feeling of suddenly being the only remaining direct offspring of Richard and Andrea Simon,” Simon said in her statement, according to CBS News.

Joanna, 85, died battling thyroid cancer, People reported. She was a famous opera performer, and won an Emmy in 1991 for her report on mental illness and creativity while working as arts correspondent on PBS’s MacNeil-Lehrer NewsHour.

Lucy, 82, died battling metastatic breast cancer, according to the outlet. She was also well-known in the entertainment industry, having been nominated for a Tony award in 1991 for her score in “The Secret Garden.” Lucy won two Grammys for her children’s albums “In Harmony: A Sesame Street Record” and “In Harmony 2,” according to Entertainment Weekly.

The three Simon sisters also had a late brother, Peter Simon, who passed away at 71 years old in 2018 after being diagnosed with lung cancer, according to People.

“Their [Joanna and Lucy’s] loss will be long and haunting. As sad as this day is, it’s impossible to mourn them without celebrating their incredible lives that they lived,” Carly Simon said in her statement, according to CBS News.
