20th Century Studios released a new “Avatar: The Way of Water” trailer Wednesday, revealing stunning new views of the oceans of Pandora in the latest look at the long-awaited sequel to 2009’s “Avatar.”

“Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure,” reads the official synopsis.

The film will have a runtime of 3 hours and 12 minutes, 30 minutes longer than its predecessor, and is set to hit theatres on Dec. 16, 13 years after the release of the original movie. “Avatar” remains the top-grossing film in the history of cinema. Stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang will return for the sequel, joined by franchise newcomers Vin Diesel and Kate Winslet. After undergoing rigorous training to be able to act underwater, some actors were reportedly able to hold their breath for up to seven minutes.

Director James Cameron has plans for three more films in the franchise, with all of the third film and some of the fourth already shot. “Avatar 3” is set to be released on Dec. 22, 2023, with “Avatar 4” following on Dec. 19, 2025 and “Avatar 5” on Dec. 17, 2027.
