Louisiana-style fast-food chicken purveyor Popeyes is opening up the holiday season with a week of free chicken sandwiches.

For the first week of November, Popeyes will be observing both National Sandwich Day — Nov. 3 — and National Fried Chicken Sandwich Day — Nov. 9 — with a new, buy-one-get-one-free promotion for its popular chicken sandwich, according to Thrillist.

Any customer purchasing a chicken sandwich combo of either the classic or spicy variety through the Popeyes mobile app or online can get a second sandwich for free. There really is no fine print other than the requirement to order online or through the app. Beyond that, “it’s free rein on BOGO chicken sandwiches all week,” as Thrillist put it.

The Popeyes chicken sandwich, a “southern style” chicken sandwich with either mayonnaise or spicy mayo, pickles and a buttery brioche-style bun, was released Aug. 12, 2019.

It quickly became a social phenomenon with enormous lines at restaurants and fierce debates over how Popeyes’ sandwich compared to offerings from competitors such as Chik-fil-A and KFC. The sandwich was sold out nationwide by Aug. 27, according to Complex.

“The demand for the new chicken sandwich in the first few weeks following launch far exceeded our very optimistic expectations,” Popeyes said in a statement to Business Insider. “In fact, Popeyes aggressively forecasted demand through the end of September and has already sold through that inventory.”

Supplies of the coveted sandwich would remain sparse until its official relaunch three months later in Nov. 2019. Popeye’s famous cajun Thanksgiving turkeys are also available for pre-order in time for the holidays, according to Thrillist.
