Washington Commanders’ head coach Ron Rivera is sticking with Taylor Heinicke as the team’s starting quarterback, he announced Wednesday during a press conference.

The decision comes two days after the Commanders took down the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles 32-21 on Monday Night Football.
It’s only right Rivera sticks with Heinicke going forward. Heinicke proved to the world Monday night that he’s capable of knocking off any team he faces. If he can steal a win over the best team in the NFL in the Philadelphia Eagles, then he can surely quarterback Washington to victory over anybody. In my opinion, Heinicke gives the Commanders a better opportunity to win than Carson Wentz. What I’ve seen of Wentz this season only makes me think he’s washed up. In six games as Washington’s starting quarterback in 2022, Wentz has had a poor record of 2-4, and he also has the lowest QBR (quarterback rating) of his entire career, according to Pro Football Reference. From what it looks like, Wentz’s best playing days are, unfortunately, behind him.
The Commanders are just a half-game behind the San Francisco 49ers for the final playoff spot in the NFC playoff standings, according to ESPN. With Heinicke leading the way, I like Washington’s chances at making the postseason.
Time will tell how Washington does going forward, but I think Rivera deciding to roll with the hot hand QB will pay off for the team in a major way.
