Adele spoke candidly about her divorce and therapy Friday after she performed her hit song, “Someone Like You” before an audience at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

“The last couple of weeks I have been highly emotional during that song and then I tend to cry, but this week I am not going to cry. I am going to stay strong,” Adele admitted in a video recording of the concert.

The singer added that after a few years without it she decided to start therapy again, adding with a chuckle that when she was going through her divorce she was “basically having five therapy sessions a day.”

Adele married long-time partner Simon Konecki in 2018 only to separate in August 2019 and divorce in 2021 something that left the singer feeling “disappointed” not only for herself, but for the couple’s son Angelo, Parade reported. “I’ve been obsessed with a nuclear family because I never came from one… I take marriage very seriously. It seems like, I don’t know, almost like I disrespected it by getting married and divorced so quickly. I’m just embarrassed that I didn’t make my marriage work… I’m still not fully over it; me choosing to dismantle my child’s life for my own makes me very uncomfortable,” Adele told Oprah in 2021, Parade reported.

Adele also credited her ex-husband with essentially saving her life, telling Oprah, “I could’ve easily gone down some dodgy paths and sort of self-destructions, being so overwhelmed by all of it. He came in and was stable, the most stable person I’ve ever had in my life up until that point. Even now, I trust him with my life… Him and Angelo, they were angels sent to me. That’s how I feel,” she admitted, according to Parade.

Adele told her audience that her decision to resume therapy was directly related to performance anxiety. “I always get so emotional. I love making music, but there is something about performing live that actually terrifies me and fills me with dread. That is why I am not a big touring artist,” she said, according to Fox News 5.

“Now I am doing it because I just want to make sure I’m topping myself up every week to make sure I can give you everything,” she added, according to the outlet.
