Only a small minority of Democrats want President Joe Biden to run for reelection in 2024, according to a Monday poll from the Associated Press and the NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

Only 37% of Democrats want Biden to seek another term, compared to 52% last fall, according to the AP. Biden’s support is heavily concentrated among older Democrats; 49% of Democrats over age 45 want him to run again compared to only 23% of those under 45.

Biden has repeatedly cast doubt on his own claims that he’ll run for reelection, commenting “I don’t know about that” during a November White House speech after an audience member shouted, “four more years!”

Biden’s support among young Democrats has plummeted since before the November midterms, when 45% wanted him to run again, according to the AP. His support has also declined among the general population, with 22% of U.S. adults now supporting his reelection compared to 29% prior to the midterms. Biden’s approval rating among American adults is 41%, the poll found.

The poll surveyed 1,068 adults in a sample designed to reflect the general population Jan. 26 – 30 with  4.2% margin of error.
