Former President Donald Trump mocked CNN host Don Lemon for his morning show’s sinking ratings compared to its predecessor.
Trump called Lemon “The Dumbest Man on Television” in a Truth Social post on Thursday. Lemon’s morning show, “CNN This Morning,” is the network’s lowest-rated morning show in almost a decade, according to The Wrap. Lemon hosts his morning show with CNN anchor Poppy Harlow and former CNN White House Correspondent Kaitlan Collins, who previously worked for the Daily Caller. The program was launched in November 2022 as part of CNN boss Chris Licht’s personnel shakeup designed to rebrand the network away from liberal partisanship.
When Lemon’s removal from primetime was announced in September 2022, Trump called it “a small step for television, a giant step for mankind” on Truth Social.
“Don Lemon, often called ‘the dumbest man on television’ having made even Lebron James look smart during their interview two years ago, has been FIRED from his prime time evening spot on CNN,” Trump said.
“CNN This Morning” has seen lower ratings compared to “New Day,” its predecessor that ran from 2013-22. “CNN This Morning” viewership in its first three months is 16.2% less than the last month “New Day” was on air. Ratings have dropped 21% with the core 25-54 cable news demographic, according to Nielsen Data.
