HBO seems close to green-lighting a new series based on their hit “Game of Thrones” property, according to reports.

The series, set in the world of fantasy author George R.R. Martin, will reportedly center on the Aegon’s Conquest era of the fictional continent of Westeros. This historical period covers Aegon I Targaryen’s invasion and unification of the continent’s kingdoms through fiery warfare. According to franchise lore, Aegon came from the neighboring continent of Essos and used his three dragons to force six of the seven Westerosi regions into submitting to his rule, establishing the Targaryen family as the ruling dynasty of Westeros. The new show will seek to capitalize on the success of the “Game of Thrones” spinoff “The House of The Dragon,” which proved to be a massive hit for HBO, averaging 29 million views per episode, garnering strong reviews and earning a quick second-season renewal from HBO.

The Aegon series remains in the very early stages with no actors or writers attached as of this time, according to Variety. The premium cable network remains reportedly highly enthusiastic about the project and wants to push it into development. HBO also has other “Game of Thrones” content in the pipeline for fans, with a Jon Snow spinoff reportedly in the works.
