A Las Vegas substitute teacher was reportedly fired following an alleged racial incident in the classroom.

The teacher, whose name is not currently public, has been accused of writing the “n” word on the board and telling Silvestri Junior High School students, “African features … were said to resemble those of monkeys and apes,” 8News Now reported Thursday, citing video of the alleged incident. The footage obtained by 8News Now was reportedly captured by students in the classroom.

“Either we can have a fun class today where we actually talk about English,” the teacher continued, according to 8News Now. “I was planning on y’all being a bunch of little punks and misbehaving and this class acting as detention.”

Students reportedly pushed back against the teacher in class after he allegedly wrote the “n” word on the whiteboard.

“I don’t know why all of you are making such a big deal when this word leaves most of your mouths every second,” the teacher said, according to 8News Now. (RELATED: Florida Arts Teacher Fired For Allegedly Discussing Sexuality With Students)

Principal Yvette Tippets sent a letter to families following the alleged incident, Fox5 reported, saying the school was “diligently investigating.”

“As the school principal, I assure you that appropriate action will be taken against those responsible based on the outcome of the investigation. Additionally, I would like you to know that this will not be tolerated at our school or within the school district,” Tippets wrote.

“Silvestri Junior High School is dedicated to inclusion as the foundation of emotional, social, and academic growth and support of all individuals. Our school community is inclusive of all races, ethnicities, cultures, religions/beliefs, sexual orientations, gender identities, socioeconomic statuses, abilities, and living arrangements,” the letter continued, according to Fox5.

Clark County School District has an equity, inclusion and anti-racism policy that prohibits discrimination based on race, according to the school district’s website.
