A convicted sex offender shot his wife, his three step-children and two teenage girls before turning the gun on himself, police in Oklahoma confirmed Wednesday.

The seven bodies found Monday outside the small Oklahoma town of Henryetta belonged to convicted sex offender Jesse McFadden, 39; his wife, Holly Guess, 35; her children, Rylee Elizabeth Allen, 17; Michael James Mayo, 15 and Tiffany Dore Guess, 13; along with Tiffany’s friends Ivy Webster, 14 and Brittany Brewer, 15, Okmulgee Police Chief Joe Prentice announced in a May 3 press conference.

Though the investigation remains in its preliminary stages, Prentice said all of the victims sustained between one and three gunshot wounds to the head before McFadden turned the gun on himself. “The evidence is that Jesse McFadden murdered six people and then killed himself. Beyond that, I don’t know what his thought process was,” Prentice told reporters.

McFadden was due in court May 1 for the beginning of a trial on charges of soliciting sexual conduct with a minor and possession of child pornography. His failure to appear in court, coinciding with the disappearance of Webster and Brewer who were believed to be with him, led authorities on a search that ended Monday afternoon. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol found the bodies while searching a property being rented by the McFaddens in Henryetta, 90 miles north of Oklahoma City.

Janette Mayo, Holly Guess’ mother and the grandmother of Holly’s three children, told the Associated Press that McFadden had “lied” to her daughter about his criminal past, adding that he was very controlling. “He was very standoffish, generally very quiet, but he kept my daughter and the kids basically under lock and key. He had to know where they were at all times, which sent red flags up,” she told the outlet Wednesday.
