Sheriff’s Deputies found a man living in a Florida home with a dead woman Friday, while her body was still decomposing on the bedroom floor.
Investigators from the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said they were called to the home for a wellness check shortly before 5pm on Friday, according to ABC7. Upon arrival, a man named Justin Carver, 36, walked outside the property to greet them and locked the door behind him. Deputies reported a foul odor was emanating from the home.
When they went inside, they found the body of 55-year-old Layni Carver, his mother, decomposing on the bedroom floor, WinkNews reported. It’s believed that the body had been there for several days and no cause of death has been officially released.
Carver was arrested for failing to report a death to the Medical Examiner and resisting an officer without violence. He was placed in the Charlotte County Jail without bond.

Carver apparently lived at the property with his mother and another man. A neighbor, George Doyle, said Carver had been arrested several times, and described him as “creepy,” ABC7 noted.
“Layni was 50, she was laying in that house dead for days. We started smelling it, me and my neighbor, death like something decomposing. It was horrible,” Doyle told the outlet. “They always had multiple problems. We’ve had to call a few times for their domestic disturbances. It was all hours of the night.”

Official arrest records from Charlotte County show that Carver has been arrested at least six times, including his most recent case. He was just released from jail in April.
