President Joe Biden met with King Charles III for the first time Monday since missing out on his coronation.
The two leaders had a meeting at Windsor Castle before participating in a climate event with philanthropists and investors.
Biden did not attend the King’s coronation in May. The administration sent first lady Jill Biden instead and the White House was tight-lipped about why the president didn’t go to the U.K. at the time. (RELATED: King Charles III Officially Crowned In Westminster Abbey)
“I mentioned that he had a call with the King and congratulated him. And they said that they would — they would get together later on, and they are,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Friday. “I don’t think there’s — there’s — I don’t — there’s no ‘there’ there. They’re going to see each other in a couple of days. And I think that’s a good thing.”
Biden also met with U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and is set to head to Lithuania to attend a NATO summit.
