Infamous COVID-19 doctor Peter Hotez reached a whole new level of self-parody in a tweet shared Sunday.

Most people know Hotez as the so-called expert on COVID-19 who is too scared to debate his expertise with anyone, including Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.  But now we can all know him as the guy who thinks that the movies “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” will cause a spike in COVID-19 cases, years after the rest of America stopped caring about the disease.

“Not to be a Debbie Downer…but anyone worried about a post-BarbieBoxOffice Covid bump? Or post-Oppie? We’ll probably never know since no one seems to be keeping track of such things anymore. Keep up with your boosters and find a pink N-95 or KN-95 if you can,” Hotez wrote to his followers on Twitter, clearly not realizing how ridiculous he sounds.

I mean, this is also the guy who said Republicans were being ridiculous for investigating the potential that COVID-19 leaked from a lab in Wuhan,China, where gain-of-function research was taking place. Then it was made public that Hotez himself has taken part in that very same research, so the fact anyone is stupid enough to keep giving him the time of day is really a reflection on their own ignorance, not his. But the ignorant are clearly coming in masses, judging by the replies to Hotez’s tweet. A slew of folks posted about how they decided to wear masks to the movies, while others shared that they’ve destroyed their own social lives over fears of a disease that they haven’t even contracted.
