A “Morning Joe” panel pressed Democratic New York Rep. Dan Goldman for more details on the conversations Hunter Biden allegedly had with his father about his foreign business dealings.

Hunter’s former business associate, Devon Archer, testified Monday about President Joe Biden’s involvement with his son’s overseas business dealings. Goldman, a member of the House Oversight Committee, attended the closed-door hearing and argued Archer’s testimony “completely absolves Joe Biden of any involvement” in his son’s business dealings.

Co-panelist Willie Geist pressed Goldman to say it is “unseemly” for Hunter to call his father.

‘Well, I think Hunter Biden has been open about that himself, that he certainly used his last name to benefit his own business interests,” Goldman said. “The question, though, is not whether Hunter Biden did anything. The question is whether he did have any influence or did have any access, and whether the president did anything to benefit Hunter. And what was clear in the testimony yesterday, is that there were many instances where Hunter Biden tried to get ‘credit’ for something that his father did completely independent.”

“The key here is that they never discussed business. They said ‘hello,’ it was greetings, niceties, salutations, small talk. It was never involved with business,” Goldman continued.

Co-panelist Jonathan Lemire then attempted to get Goldman to discuss “specifics” about the alleged phone calls. Goldman mentioned the context of Joe Biden’s oldest son, Beau, dying around the time Archer and Hunter partnered up in their business dealings in 2015. “At that point, Joe Biden and Hunter Biden began to speak everyday, because they were both devastated by Beau’s death. They spoke everyday,” Goldman said. “The witness testified that over his 10-year relationship with Hunter Biden, there may be approximately 20 times when, in one of those conversations, Hunter Biden would put his father at a dinner — not a business meeting — at a dinner that he was having, if he happened to get ahold of his father, and would ask his father to say ‘hello’ to whoever was at the table.”

“And that was essentially the extent of it,” he continued.

Goldman also framed the suspicions of Joe Biden’s involvement as an “illusion” that liberal media outlets and pundits have picked up. He argued the investigation into Hunter is a “fishing expedition” with “no basis in fact.”

“Why are we wasting taxpayer money on this fishing expedition where there’s no basis for Congress to be involved? The Department of Justice can do what it wants, but that’s not Congress’ role,” Goldman insisted.

Archer testified Joe and Hunter Biden spoke “more than 20 times about their business deals” after Joe Biden denied having discussed any business deals with his son prior to the 2020 election. Archer also testified that Hunter referred to his father as “my guy,” and that the then-vice president was “the brand” to the board of Ukrainian energy company Burisma, where Hunter served as a board member.
