A video emerged of a mountain of mulch on fire in an industrial area in Houston, Texas, the Associated Press (AP) reported Monday.

The fire occurred at Living Earth, an organic compost and horticultural facility on Crawford Road, Carverdale, northwest Houston, the Houston Fire Department (HFD) said Monday in a statement. It reportedly began on Sunday with equipment igniting the fire. Firefighters reportedly arrived at the scene within six minutes and appeared to have contained the fire within an hour. However, winds whipped up the flames again, fanning them in the direction of a nearby warehouse, and thick smoke reduced visibility. The firefighters, working through the night, successfully protected the warehouse, preventing the loss of “approximately 2 million dollars of equipment, materials and property,” per the statement. The mountainous mulch fire, though contained, continues to burn and smolder, requiring more than 100 firefighters to contain it, according to the AP video footage.

The US Fire Pump, a private fire protection company, took over the firefighting operation from the HFD and predicted that the fire may take at least a week to extinguish, the HFD statement noted.

The facility suffered a similar mulch fire in February, when equipment ignited a fire, which, with the help of high winds, caused about $600,000 in damage to Living Earth, per the statement.
