A majority of Americans, 61%, believe President Joe Biden played a hand in his son Hunter Biden’s business dealings while he was vice president, a CNN poll published Thursday found.

Within the 61%, 42% of respondents said they believe Biden’s actions were illegal, 18% said he merely acted unethically and 1% said he was involved in his son’s dealings but did nothing wrong.

Thirty-eight percent said they thought the then-vice president did not have any involvement in Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings in countries like Ukraine and China.

A majority of respondents, 55%, also said they thought Joe Biden has acted inappropriately during the ongoing investigations into his son, while 44% said he has acted appropriately.

SSRS conducted the CNN poll via online and telephone survey and had a margin of error of 3.5%. The poll took place between Aug. 25-31 among a random national sample of 1,503 adults.

The House Oversight Committee has been specifically investigating Joe Biden’s involvement in Hunter Biden’s overseas dealings. The committee published a report in May alleging foreign sources gave members of the Biden family $10 million while Joe Biden was vice president.

The committee members brought Hunter Biden’s former business associate Devon Archer to testify before Congress. Archer said Hunter Biden put Joe Biden on the phone more than 20 times during Hunter’s business meetings. Archer also said the Biden family “brand” protected Ukrainian energy company Burisma — where Hunter Biden was a board member — from legal scrutiny.

Previous polls have shown the public believes the investigations into Hunter Biden have been unfair and Hunter Biden profited off of his father’s position.

A plurality of Americans thought the Department of Justice (DOJ) was unfair in their investigation into Hunter Biden’s finances. An ABC/Ipsos poll showed 32% of respondents said they were “very” or “somewhat confident” the department conducted its investigation properly, while 48%, said they are “not so confident” or “not confident at all.
