A large majority of Americans believe Hunter Biden personally profited off Joe Biden’s political office as Congress continues to investigate the younger Biden’s foreign business dealings, poll results show.

A poll taken from Aug. 19-22 by The Economist and YouGov found 72% of U.S. adults believe Hunter Biden made money off his father’s positions in government, including 53% of Democrats and 72% of independents. Ninety-two percent of Republicans said they believe Hunter Biden profited off his father’s political office.

The survey also showed most Americans were at least somewhat familiar with the Hunter Biden investigations, with 37% saying they heard a lot about them recently and 48% having heard a little. The Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating the president’s son for alleged tax crimes, and congressional Republicans are investigating Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings. Bank records released by the House Oversight Committee show the Biden family and its associates received more than $20 million in payments from Ukrainian, Russian, Chinese, Romanian and Kazakh business partners.

Hunter Biden’s former business associate, Devon Archer, testified to House Oversight in July and recalled more than 20 instances where Joe Biden spoke with his son’s business partners.

Archer specifically testified Joe Biden attended a spring 2014 dinner alongside Russian oligarch Elena Baturina and Kazakh oligarch Kenes Rakishev. He also mentioned a spring 2015 dinner with Vadim Pozharskyi, an executive with Ukrainian energy firm Burisma, which paid Hunter Biden more than $80,000 per month as one of its board members. In addition, Archer testified about how the Biden family “brand” protected Burisma from scrutiny and allowed the firm to stay in business. He told Daily Caller co-founder Tucker Carlson earlier in August that it’s “categorically false” to say Joe Biden was not aware of his son’s business dealings.

Two-thirds of Americans hold an unfavorable view of Hunter Biden, as 43% see him very unfavorably and 23% somewhat unfavorably, The Economist and YouGov found. A plurality of Americans, 40%, said they were not sure if the DOJ investigation into Hunter Biden has been conducted fairly. The poll has a +/- 3.2% margin of error and it sampled 1,500 American adult citizens.

IRS whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler have accused the DOJ of giving the president’s son special treatment by slow-walking and obstructing the investigation. Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty to two tax misdemeanors after his plea agreement and diversion agreement fell apart due to a disagreement between his defense counsel and DOJ special attorney Leo Wise.

The proposed diversion agreement for Biden’s felony gun charge contained an immunity provision that Delaware U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika heavily scrutinized in late July, causing Biden’s plea deal to collapse. Special Counsel David Weiss withdrew the Delaware tax charges in August to potentially charge Biden in Washington, D.C., or the Central District of California.
