Nearly 80% of black women view crime as a “very serious problem,” according to a survey conducted by GQR Research and Vera Action and released on Tuesday.
While 57% of respondents viewed crime as a pressing concern, black women were the most concerned about the issue, according to the survey results. Black women were also the least likely to report feeling safe in their community, as only 24% claimed to feel “very safe” while 38% of respondents overall said they felt “very safe” in their communities. “The poll shows that most voters want leaders to offer a comprehensive approach that addresses violent crime and illegal guns while investing in services that stop crime before it happens such as mental health and drug treatment services,” the memo reads. “When candidates employ a comprehensive approach, they are speaking to blocs of voters both parties would like to engage or win over, including Black women, independent women and younger voters.”

Black women represent a significant portion of the Democratic vote, as 93% voted for President Joe Biden in the 2020 election, PBS reported based on AP VoteCast data. They also represented 12% of Biden voters, overall.
The survey, which polled 1,500 voters and was conducted by Democrat-affiliated GQR and Vera Action, also asked about key issues ahead of the 2024 presidential election, including inflation, climate change, taxes and public education. GQR and Vera Action conducted their survey online between Aug. 10-23, according to the memo.
GQR and Vera Action did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
