A man allegedly attempted to kidnap a child after striking the child’s mother in downtown Miami on Wednesday.

Dionis Triana began harassing the victims as they walked near the county’s Stephen P. Clark Government Center around 1:30 p.m., according to the Miami-Dade Police Department, Local 10 reported. The 27-year-old suspect then screamed profanities at the victims as they proceeded forward, according to Local 10.

“Fuck you,” the suspect allegedly screamed at the mother and child, police said, per the outlet.

A witness heard the victims tell Triana to “leave them alone because they had a small child,” prompting the suspect to back off, according to the police report. His retreat was only temporary, however, as he quickly resumed screaming and began attempting to grab the child, police said, according to Local 10. “Fuck that, I’m going to take the baby then,” Triana yelled, per the outlet.

Triana then slapped the mother in the face before being chased away by a security officer who could not keep up with him, the report said, Local 10 reported.

Triana was arrested and charged with attempted kidnapping and battery after police caught up with him near the city’s Ultramont Mall, the outlet reported. He was taken into custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $11,500 bond, according to jail records, Local 10 noted.

Triana is not a first time offender. He was out on bond charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting with violence and battery at the time of the incident, per Local 10.
