A high school senior in Texas wants to create an anti-racism club for students but can’t find a teacher to advise the proposed group, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Brady Golomb, a student at Southlake Carroll High School in Southlake, Texas, said he had the idea for the group when the Southlake Anti-Racism Coalition formed in 2021, according to the Star-Telegram. Golumb said he wants to use his “privilege” to assist students afraid to talk about racial discrimination but can’t find a teacher to advise the club. “I’m done being silent. I want to do my best to be a student voice,” Golumb told the Star-Telegram.
Golumb said there are nearly 50 students that want to join the anti-racism club, according to the Star-Telegram. He also said LGBTQ students would be welcome to join the club.
Golomb said he is worried because employment contracts at the high school have a non-disparagement clause that disallows teachers from speaking out about the school to the media, according to the Star-Telegram.
Several complaints against the school regarding discrimination and retaliation on the basis of immutable characteristics are being investigated by the Department of Education Office on Civil Rights, according to the Star-Telegram.
The Carroll Independent School District Board of Trustees passed a resolution in March to leave the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) saying the TASB’s values “do not align” with Texans. The district implemented policies in July that removed “gender identity” and “sexual orientation” from the school district’s handbook and implemented a new bathroom policy that requires students to use the bathroom that “corresponds to their biological sex.”
Southlake Carroll High School did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
